UK Shifted India Status from Red to Amber. What an Indian Student Should Know Before Flying to the UK?

The United Kingdom has moved India to the Amber list from the previous Red list as a part of relaxing the travel restrictions.

This is good news for Indians traveling to Britain for various purposes. It especially benefits Indian students whose studies are getting delayed due to pandemic and global travel restrictions.

The decision has come as a big relief for Indian students willing to pursue their highereducation in British universities.

 Before Traveling

Get fully vaccinated and carry the respective Vaccination reports. Follow the Vaccination protocols and get information on which vaccines are approved by the United Kingdom.

One should be aware that the final dose of Vaccine should be taken 14 full days before arriving in England.

Indian nationals should take a Corona test within 3 days before their schedule, the report will be checked by the local airport officials and airlines.

Before traveling itself one should book slots for 2 Covid tests, which are to be taken on arrival in the UK.

On arrival, one should fill and submit the passenger locator form, which will have your location details.

 How to Avoid Hotel Quarantine?

 Fully Vaccinated

An Indian student should get fully vaccinated before flying to the United Kingdom to avoid 10day hotel quarantine as fully vaccinated travelers coming from places in the Amber list are no longer required mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine.

 What is Fully vaccinated

The second dose of the approved vaccine taken at least 14 full days before arrival in UK is Full vaccinated.

The day of final dose does not include a mandatory 14 days.

Quarantine-Chose Your Place

Indian nationals after arriving in the UK are allowed to undergo quarantine for 10 days at a location they choose, either home or any place. These details should be given for officials through passenger locator form.

Also, one must take a COVID test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8. These tests should be booked by the passenger in advance before traveling.

 How to End Quarantine Early

 "Test to Release" scheme

An Indian student can end quarantine early through the "Test to Release" scheme, through which he/she can undergo a Covid test on the 5th day of quarantine. One should pay for this test. This option is available only after finishing 5 days of quarantine.

If the result is negative, no need to undergo quarantine.

Who are Exempted From Home Quarantine

Those below 18 and those who got 2 doses of Vaccine in the UK are given exemption from home quarantine.

 How Days are Counted

The day on which you arrive in the UK is treated as day 0

The day after you arrive is counted as day 1, and so on

The day on which you have taken the final dose of vaccine does not come in the mandatory 14 days rule. Means, that day is not counted
